The Friends of the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum held their annual Mulled Wine Evening in the Museum’s Main Hall at Stockley Lane, Calne on Saturday 3rd December, attracting around 100 guests.
Along with access to the Museum, the guests enjoyed hotdogs, a buffet of home made food, mince pies and of course the mulled wine.
Following a blind raffle for many smaller prizes, the highlight of the evening was the draw of the winning ticket for the Annual Grand Draw, the prize this year being a 1957 Morris Minor 1000 car, affectionately known as Willow. The lucky winner was not at the event on Saturday, but was contacted the following day.
The car will be staying local, with the winner, Sue Maton living in Compton Bassett!
A presentation ceremony was held at the Museum on Sunday 11th December, where Sue took possession of her new toy. She said “It brings back childhood memories, as a relative had one when I was a child and the memory has stuck with me, I loved that car. I am definitely going to keep it and we are trying to find somewhere to garage it over the winter because I don’t want to get it wrecked in the bad weather.”
Over 4500 Grand Draw tickets were sold by the Friends during the last year at numerous events across the area, providing funds for special projects within the Museum.
Next year’s prize is a 1979 Triumph Dolomite 1500SE, already known as Dolly, which was donated to the Museum when its owner gave up driving. This is currently undergoing final preparations and tickets will be available soon.
